&Tradition

A curated panel exploring colour in design

How can an object’s history be conveyed within the context of a product launch?

To mark the release of five new colours of designer Verner Panton’s celebrated Flowerpot lamps, Danish manufacturer &Tradition invited Disegno Works to conceptualise and host a panel discussion at Antwerp’s fashion museum, MoMu.

Curated around Panton’s use of colour and his philosophy that “colours have meaning and function”, the panel talk combined editorial rigour with expert speakers, inviting an audience of international press and the general public to consider the Flowerpot Lamp in a historically thoughtful manner, while also contextualising the changes in how colour is used in design today.

Disegno Works invited specialist designers and curators to reflect on the role of colour within the field and ask questions about how the design industry could draw closer to the sophisticated understanding of colour evidenced by Panton’s work.

Speakers included Sabine Marcelis, product and furniture designer, and Lucia Savi, fashion and textiles curator at the Design Museum, London.
