Disegno #37 and Voices: A Story of Swiss Design launch at Milan Design Week 2024

17.04.24

We are delighted to announce the launch of two publications during Milan Design Week 2024 from our sister company Disegno. This week sees Disegno #37 hit newsstands internationally as well as the launch of Voices: A Story of Swiss Design. The latter publication has been created in partnership with Pro Helvetia and the House of Switzerland Milano and has been released as a standalone publication and as an insert found at the heart of Disegno #37.

Voices: A Story of Swiss Design offers a myriad of intersecting and diverging reflections to the question: what is Swiss design? The country is often perceived through the lens of the 20th-century Swiss style and Max Bill’s notion of die gute form, but Swiss design is more varied, contradictory, and multicultural than these framings can comfortably admit. As such the publication is a piece of oral storytelling featuring reflections from 33 practitioners drawn from across the Swiss design landscape. It is a publication that hopes to avoid generalisations, and instead aspires to acknowledge and celebrate the unavoidably personal and unashamedly subjective forces shaping Swiss design.

These reflections sit alongside playful photography from Nicolas Haeni, who was commissioned to capture a selection of Swiss design objects selected by Disegno’s editorial team and present them in surprising and arresting settings. The photo series includes a disembodied Round Rivers bomber jacket; a Malvaux N°1 Swiss army knife lodged inside the mouth of an apple; a USM Haller system gleefully sledging downhill and many more contemporary Swiss designs.
